Customer Stories - Dr. Tom

Background:

Dr Tom came to see us from Cork, to have his old set of Ping Eye 2 Beryllium irons looked at. He knew they had run their course and wanted to upgrade his clubs.

What was happening:

Tom knew he needed longer clubs (he is 6ft 5) and he struggled with a hook shot to the left. He has large hands and was struggling for control and more consistency. As Tom’s original irons were too short and the shaft was regular, there was no stability in the shot and his wedges were just too short. So he developed a very steep swing with lots of follow-through and hit all his shots very high. His swing was quite fast and he turned very quickly through impact.

What we did:

The first thing we did was establish the correct length of club for Tom, we needed to make sure his posture was comfortable and that he could stand taller. With correct posture comes greater consistency. We then needed to stiffen up the shaft and use a very lightweight design. That way, we could make his irons longer, whilst retaining the flex and overall balance. This made them stable and easier to control. The grips were Midsize to fit his hand better, and we put Tom into low centre of gravity fairway woods and a hybrid to help him get the ball in the air easier. Finally, we used a lower flighted profile of shaft with lots of stability throughout the set with a 9.5* driver to lower his ball flight for more control and distance.

Update:

"The new clubs are bedding down nicely, they are now in my possession nine and half months (just one week longer than a normal pregnancy) and have helped me to a very successful end of year campaign. I won our clubs single championship and got to the final of the the four ball. The clubs feel like wands" - Dr Tom
